Bolebroke Castle
A Building once belonging to Henry VIII was to open its doors for the RiPA's.
From people reporting punches to the face to latin chants being uttered as the sleeping subject tries to rest after a busy day, Bolebroke sounds like it'll provide the RiPA's with a very interesting night.
So after a surprisingly easy-going journey from MK to Sussex, Via M1 and M25, which, for the last bank holiday of the year, was pretty clear, Atticus and Sarah were making good time for the nights event so they thought they would take advantage of this and take a detour to a little place in Shere. In Shere lies a small lake, surrounded by a host of trees. This lake is known by the name of Silent Pool and has a legend attached to it that can be traced back into Saxon history.
In the area surrounding the lake, there was a woodcutter, who made his home in the forest. He lived with his two children, a son and a daughter. The woodcutter's daughter, Emma, was known to be a rather striking young woman. One day, Emma went to the lake to have a bath, but was interrupted when she heard the galloping of a horse and soon saw a rider approaching her. She was unable to make it to the side of the water to retrieve her clothes and get dressed. To avoid being seen by the rider, she waded into the deepest part of the lake so that she could hide her naked body with the water.
When the rider realized what he had come across when he reached the water, he lingered by the lakeside with hopes of coaxing her out of the water. This stranger scared Emma, causing her to move deeper and deeper into the water. The rider took offense to this and became irritated with her actions and decided to ride his horse into the lake, causing Emma to scream for her life. Not too far from the lake, Emma's brother could hear the screams coming from the lake where he knew his sister had gone. He dropped his work and ran to the lake to see what was the matter.
Emma's brother had reached her and was trying to drag her out of the water, but he was not that good of a swimmer. The more he tried to save her, the deeper they both sank into the water until they both drowned and fell to the bottom of the lake. Upon seeing the two engulfed in the lake, the rider turned his horse around and traveled away from the lake, never to be seen in the forest again. The woodcutter was not in the vicinity when his children met their untimely death so when he returned to his home and found that no one was home, he searched for their whereabouts. One day turned into two, which turned into three, until one afternoon, he thought to investigate the lake and made a chilling discovery, dragging their bodies from the water. It is said that the rider who precipitated the deaths of the woodcutter's two children may have been the evil horseman known as Prince John, who was Regent of Britain. Prince John has a reputation for bringing ill will to those he came in contact with.
It is said that Emma's ghost still haunts the lake, prompting witnesses to spot a pale figure floating on the surface of the lake. Some claim to have heard her screaming, as well as asking for help. When visiting the lake, you may find that it is eerily calm with the capabilities of sending chills up and down your spine. This is why the name of Silent Pool was given to the lake.
Atticus and Sarah saw no ghost but did take note of how clean and clear and silent the water was. Time was ticking away now so they decided to leave and head to the place that they were to spend the night hours in.
On arriving at the location, all was quiet. Atticus stepped out of the car and walked towards the large wooden door that provided entrance to the castle. The old fashioned bell was rang, but no-one came. Sarah and Atticus went for a walk around the grounds to see if anyonw was lingering about. As they reached the rear of the building, they found a door that was open. They both stepped in and it was an eerie silence. As Atticus called out, a dull echo replied. The place was empty but felt crowded. Maybe they were a little early?
After the long drive, they both decided to go into the nearest village to grab a bite to eat.
A little while later, D arrived, He gave Atticus a shout to let him know of his arrival but as Att was only 5 mins away it wasnt long before they met up.
On returning to the location this time, the door was open and led into a welcoming entrance hall. Atticus met with Peter, the current owner, and after a short introduction and a quick tour, it was time to start setting up for the night.
D however, had already started to sense things including that of footsteps, could this be a start of some strong paranormal events?
Some time later, the rest of the RiPA's turned up, minus 3 for various reasons.
But even if the team was 3 down, they carried on like the proffessionals they are.
The hub was set up but due to some reason, various electrical equipment either refused or was stubborn to start. But rather than waste time waiting for it all to be sorted, Atticus sent the team off in 3 groups to make a start on the nights studies.
Stuckie and Gobby were off to room 203, Bungle and D took the Kings Room which left Sarah and Sam to handle room 204. All three of these rooms were selcted by Atticus as they all had alleged phenomena happen in them. This was not revealed to the RiPA's at the time.
Stuckie was the first to radio down to the hub with a report that the light was flickering, unfortunatley, the flicker was a normal occurence so that excitement was short lived.
As for the guys in the Kings Room, Dom reported a presence in the room that was so strong it made him jump, Bungle, RiPA's Skeptic, confirmed this. Sam and Sarah had nothing to report.
The RiPA's eventually regrouped in the hub to have a break and assess what to do next.
New RiPA Donna and her guest, Amanda, turned up ready to be assigned a task.
Donna, Gobby and Amanda went to set off the RiPA Mini-Lab in room 203. A lock off camera was put in place. Were the ghosts of Bolebroke willing to play? This is something the RiPA's hoped.
Time was getting the best of the night as more equipment failed to play 'bole'.
So it was time to implement another session of trying to discover the ghostly going ons in Bolebroke.
